We have listed some common emergencies below but if you are unsure, please phone us on (02) 5134 6999 straight away.
Tick or snake bites.
Injuries e.g. traffic accident, fall from a height, animal attacks.
Sudden behavioural changes such as seizures, unconsciousness, difficulty breathing, ataxia or paralysis.
Eaten poisons such as rat bait, chocolate, cleaning chemicals and poisonous plants.
Acute-onset lameness, including suspected fractured bones and cruciate rupture.
Severe bleeding or bleeding that lasts more than a few minutes.
Inability to urinate or defaecate – straining to go to the toilet.
Coughing, gagging or retching.
Signs of severe pain.
Continued vomiting or diarrhoea, with more than two episodes per 24-hours.
Refusal to eat or drink for more than 24-hours.
Eye injuries.
Dystocia (difficulty whelping or giving birth).
A “bludging disc” – intervertebral disc disease, paralysis – spinal surgery.
